Nitin Manchanda, CEO
The energy management system—a smart operational practice—has come a long way in terms of facilitating seamless interaction between energy providers and users, reducing cost, reducing energy usage and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and optimizing energy procurement processes. Bay Area-based Energy Hippo provides the premier energy management application for multi-user, multi-permission environments. The internet-based software platform integrates disparate processes, energy management systems, and equipment into an enterprise-wide network for monitoring and controlling energy assets. “Our Enterprise Energy Management Suite (EEM Suite™) software combines powerful analytical tools, external data sources and advanced data visualization to enable energy users and providers to transform information into meaningful cost metrics, reduce risks and improve operational efficiency,” states Nitin Manchanda, CEO. The EEM Suite™ platform supports premise or hosted installations and has several offerings, including Meter Data Analyst, Tenant Billing, and BillAnalyst.
The firm’s powerful analytic tool, Meter Data Analyst, accurately analyzes interval data energy information. It is designed for the efficient retrieval, storage and reporting of real-time energy data. “As data availability and standardization grows in the marketplace, we have seen an increase in the need for a product to go beyond the utility bill,” asserts Manchanda. Meter Data Analyst provides reports and alerts on a more timely and granular basis, providing the energy manager with increased visibility into near real-time operating conditions that can be used as a basis for sophisticated energy management objectives.
Energy Hippo’s popular product, Tenant Billing, facilitates accurate visibility into bills and leads to improved user accountability, energy conservation, data management and responsiveness to customer queries around their usage. The solution procures data from multiple sources and allocates costs and consumption to create a virtual bill for the tenants. “We have a rate engine that creates different tariffs such as utility tariffs or unique customer specific tariffs that allow customers to customize the bill generation process,” says Manchanda.
We deploy Bill Analyst solutions that save time, energy and money and allow our clients to use their valuable time for energy management
The firm’s Bill Analyst software provides a utility bill-based solution for auditing, analyzing, monitoring and allocating utility expenditures, which improves financial accountability within and across an enterprise. Energy Hippo’s well-defined implementation methodology incorporates actual energy management requirements with proven technology for automation and error detection. “We deploy Bill Analyst solutions that save time, energy and money and allow our clients to use their valuable time for energy management,” states Manchanda.
One example of Energy Hippo’s work is Sacramento County, which has saved more than $700,000 through the energy management programs implemented and verified by EEM Suite™. One of the largest counties in California, Sacramento County was looking for a system that could combine billing and interval data and meet their complex energy management objectives. Previously, the county used three separate software systems to manually compile information. Energy Hippo’s EEM Suite™ software seamlessly integrated the various data sources, effectively allocates costs, reports utility expenses to individual departments and centralizes energy management and energy budgeting functions.
Energy Hippo plans to grow product functionality and services, continue to support the success of their North American clients and expand globally with multinational clients. EEM Suite™’s latest release utilizes feedback from their customers and provides a more customizable and mobile compatible product, with support for Green Button, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and GHG standards. Future releases will continue this development path and enhance the rate engine used in Tenant Billing. “A big difference is that we design our software to ensure that we not only solve current problems or requests, but anticipate client needs years from now,” concludes Manchanda.
